Welcome to the new and improved Student Body Senate homepage! Please bookmark this page so you can access it when you have questions about senate meeting times and agendas, upcoming appointments, the funding pricess, or anything else for which senate is responsible.

Last semester’s senate made significant headway on a number of important issues, including:

the student body fee (it’s anticipated that the fee will be raised by $15/semester beginning with the 2004-05 academic year)
looking into tuition reimbursement of financial aid for students adversely affected by the 1998 Higher Education Act
discussing the creation of an <link to hpday.html or similar document in Honor Principle section> Honor Principle Day <end link> (possibly Timé Day <Tee-may, as in honor, not tyme as in minutes>)
conducting an audit of student space on campus in hopes of increasing the amount of space available for student organizations and storage of items owned by the student body
contemplating the issue of attempting to make smoking legal in the Student Union
funding a great number of different events in which the student body was happy to participate!

Another notable from last semester was SCAPP’s (Student Committee on Academic Planning and Policy) accomplishment in changing the distribution of group requirements: read more here <link to SCAPP Resolution>.

This semester’s senate (meet them here!) hopes to continue the work of their predecessors and listen to YOUR suggestions about what could improve Reed College. Never hesitate to e-mail senate with your questions or concerns—we’re here to help!

Want to learn more about senate? Attend a meeting! Senate meets at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the Student Union. Read the next meeting’s agenda [link to upcoming agenda] here and e-mail the president (Erik Cameron) if you’d like to add an item to the agenda.

Want to get involved at Reed? Applying to be appointed to a committee is a great way to start! <link to explanation of appointments committee> Appointments Committee </link> meets every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Eliot 121. The Appointments Calendar tells you what other appointments are coming up, so check it regularly.

Need money? The Funding Poll and Top 40 Allocations have been completed, but you can still obtain student body funds. To request money, come to <link to explanation of finance committee>Finance Committee</a> meetings, held every Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Vollum 110. Before you come to the meeting, you must e-mail an electronic copy of your budget to the Vice Treasurer (Kerry Skemp). If for any reason you are unable to attend or send a proxy to Finance Committee meetings, but you are still interested in obtaining funds for an organization, e-mail the Vice President (Melelani Sax-Barnett), who serves as the chair of Finance Committee.
